5 Ways to make your Resume Stand Out

Here are 5 ways to make your resume stand out. By Ted Hekman

1. Include Keywords

These days, much of your job hunt will be online. This will mean you will be posting your resume on job sites, or uploading it directly to a potential employer’s website. Employers will commonly use keywords to search and find the most suitable resumes for the job.
When you are applying for a specific job, pay close attention to the job advertisement. For example, if the employer asks for “an Excel expert,” try to work in this keyword phrase somewhere. If they are looking for a “certified accountant” then include this a couple of times. When you are uploading a resume to a general jobs website, you will need to include keywords and phrases an employer might search for.

2. Work In Power Words

Instead of just listing job tasks you completed, you will need to ensure you work power words or phrases into your resume. Power words are strong words that demonstrate ability. They include words such as:
Initiated
Implemented
Led
Managed
Increased
Influenced
Launched
Advised
Demonstrated
Conceptualized
Delivered
Eliminated
Executed
Generated
Motivated
Saved
Performed
Planned
Promoted
Shaped
Supervised
Succeeded
Streamlined
Upgraded
Productive
Ability
Developing
Outstanding
Positive
Proactive
Proven
Pivotal
Repeatedly
Significantly
Thoroughly
Versatile
Words such as these serve to demonstrate to employers you are capable. Work them in to each of your bullet points. For example, take this bullet point that might commonly be found on resumes:
  • Worked on project to launch new product.
This might be transformed (another good power word!) into the following:
  • Initiated and led new project to launch new product driving revenues up.
The second bullet point of the two is clearly going to be more appealing to a potential employer than the first. Try to use this method to increase your chances of getting aninterview.

3. Use A Simple Design

There is nothing more off-putting than a resume that is ugly to look at, has huge paragraphs of text and within which it is hard to find the relevant information. Your resume design should be simple and pleasing to the eye. There are various principles of basic design that you should try to work toward.
To start, choose a clean and simple font. The font should indicate you are serious. Arial, Times New Roman and Verdana are all good. Freestyle Script is not. Neither is Comic Sans—it looks too childish. Make sure the font is large enough to read easily—anything either at or over a point size of 10 should be sufficient.
Make sure your resume has lots of white space, and break up any paragraphs into bullet points. No employer is going to read blocks of text about you. Your resume must be easily scanned by an employer’s eyes.

4. Include A Profile

At the top of your resume, you can include a “Profile” which makes your resume stand out from the crowd. This is also tailored easily for each job to which you are applying, and is a good spot for emphasizing your keywords. The profile should include your key strengths, abilities and experience, relevant to the job to which you are applying, in just four lines. It should be concise, snappy and to the point. It might include sentences such as:
Multi-skilled project manager with 10 years of experience leading complex technical projects.
Or…
Versatile administrator with extensive experience of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Your profile should market you as being the ideal person that a potential employer is looking to hire for a particular role.

5. Use Social Networking

Finally, to make your resume stand out from the crowd, you can try marketing it in different ways. CNN recommends using social networking sites to post your application materials. These are excellent for networking, making new contacts and getting your name out there. Don’t spam people, as that is just irritating and will turn off potential employers, but do use such sites to make contacts and promote yourself.

9 thoughts of Mark Twain to Make you FEEL AWESOME

I was just surfing the internet the other day and suddenly I found a quote which inspired me and also made me feel I am closer to my dream now. The Quote was told by one of the greatest thinker of all time "Mark Twain".

And quote Said
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Hope the above quote inspired you too. Searching further on Internet I found very interesting article which can make anyone feel awesome and also motivate you to reach your goal. Read on to find out 9 great quotes of Mark Twain to make you feel awesome.

1. Approve of yourself.
“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.” – Mark Twain

If you don’t approve of yourself, of your behavior and actions then you’ll probably walk around most of the day with a sort of uncomfortable feeling. If you, on the other hand, approve of yourself then you tend to become relaxed and gain inner freedom to do more of what you really want.

2. Your limitations may just be in your mind.
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” – Mark Twain

So many limitations are mostly in our minds. We may for instance think that people will disapprove because we are too tall, too old or balding. But these things mostly matter when you think they matter. Because you become self-conscious and worried about what people may think.

3. Lighten up and have some fun.
“Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.” – Mark Twain
“Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.” – Mark Twain

Humor and laughter are amazing tools. They can turn any serious situation into something to laugh about. They can lighten the mood just about anywhere.

4. Let go of anger.
“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.” – Mark Twain

Anger is most of the time pretty pointless. It can cause situations to get out of hand. And from a selfish perspective it often more hurtful for the one being angry then the person s/he’s angry at.

5. Release yourself from entitlement.
“Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.” – Mark Twain

When you are young your mom and dad may give a lot of things. As you grow older you may have a sort of entitlement. You may feel like the world should just give you what you want or that it owes you something. This can be really frustrating for you.

On the other hand, this can be liberating too. You realize that it is up to you to shape your own life and for you to work towards what you want. You are not a kid anymore, waiting for your parents or the world to give you something. You are the master of your own life. So just get out and get started!!!

6. If you’re taking a different path, prepare for reactions.
“A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds.” – Mark Twain

If you start to change or do something different than you usually do then people may react in different ways. Some may be happy for you. Some may be indifferent. Some may be puzzled or react in negative and discouraging ways.

So what other people may say and think and letting that hold you back is probably just fantasy and barrier you build in your mind.

You may find that when you finally cross that inner threshold you created then people around you may not shun you or go chasing.

7. Keep your focus steadily on what you want.
“Drag your thoughts away from your troubles… by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it.” - Mark Twain

What you focus your mind on greatly determines how things play out. You can focus on your problems and dwell in suffering and a victim mentality. Or you can focus on the positive in situation, what you can learn from that situation or just focus your mind on something entirely else.

8. Don’t focus so much on making yourself feel good.
“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” - Mark Twain

9. Do what you want to do.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

So GET UP, GO OUT, GET STARTED, GET STUPID, GET RUNNING AND ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM. BECOME WHAT YOU ARE MEANT TO BE.

This makes me think of a beautiful song called ‘drive’ by ‘Incubus’. There is one line which is really inspiring “Whatever tomorrow brings I will be there with open arms and open Eyes”. Go and enjoy this full song here.

You Many not be technology Expert anymore if you are unaware of this Technologies :: Check if you are Updated

So you are called Technology Expert?? Not anymore if you are unaware of this technologies. Please read ahead to find out if you are updated in IT/ ITeS.

Based on surveys and data from a variety of sources, ReadWrite has put together a list of seven of the most sought-after tech skills for this year, read on to know them. So if you are well skilled in this technology then Job is assured.

#7 iOS Development

As of September 12, 2012, Apple's App Store contained more than 700,000 iOS applications, which have collectively been downloaded more than 40 billion times. It had a 21 percent share of the Smartphone mobile operating system units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2012, behind only Google's Android.

It comes as no surprise that iOS developers are sought after. Most sources that track job talent demands iOS development or related skills like Xcode and Objective-C programming very highly.

iPhone and iPad development have been trendy for a few years now, but things actually got accelerated pretty dramatically in the last two years. After years of slow but steady growth, demand for iOS development skyrocketed over the course of 2011 and 2012, according to data from the job aggregator site, Indeed.

#6 PHP / MySQL

PHP is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. PHP is now installed on more than 244 million websites and 2.1 million web servers.

MySQL is the world's most widely used open source relational database management system (RDBMS) that runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases. The SQL phrase stands for Structured Query Language

The open source scripting language runs on more than 20 million websites and powers high-profile sites we deal with every day, including Facebook, Wikipedia, Wordpress or Drupal. So you can say that it’s all over web.

PHP is currently ranked as the most sought-after skill on Elance, with MySQL and Wordpress also cracking the top ten. There are more than a quarter of a million PHP programming gigs listed on Elance, a global online staffing platform, alone.

#5 All Things "Cloud"

The two hot things that are ruling the cloud now are- SaaS (Software as a service) and PaaS (Platform as a service).

SaaS, sometimes referred to as "on-demand software" supplied by ISVs or "Application-Service-Providers" (ASPs), is a software delivery model in which software and associated data are centrally hosted on the cloud. SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client via a web browser. SaaS has become a common delivery model for many business applications, including Office & Messaging software, DBMS software, Management software, CAD software, Development software, Virtualization, accounting and many more.

PaaS is a category of cloud computing service that provides a computing platform and a solution stack as a service. Along with software as a service (SaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS), it is also a service model of cloud computing. In this model, the consumer creates the software using tools and/or libraries from the provider. The consumer also controls software deployment and configuration settings. The provider provides the networks, servers, storage and other services.

According to one survey of IT execs, 25 percent of companies are planning on hiring people with SaaS and related cloud-computing expertise in 2013.  In general, SaaS and virtualization are both buzzwords often cited as being on-the-rise job on employment search sites.

#4 Java / J2EE

Java is a general-purpose, concurrent, class-based, object-oriented computer programming language that is specifically designed to have few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere" (WORA), meaning that code that runs on one platform does not need to be recompiled to run on another.

Java Platform, Enterprise Edition or Java EE is Oracle's enterprise Java computing platform. The platform provides an API and runtime environment for developing and running enterprise software, including network and web services, and other large-scale, multi-tiered, scalable, reliable, and secure network applications.

Java and the J2EE development platform are popping up more and more on job hiring boards and they will be high in demand throughout 2013, according to a survey from Dice.

Unlike hot new technologies like Android development and HTML5, demand for Java skills has been fairly consistent over time, although it has been on the rise in the last few years.

#3 JavaScript (And Related Technologies)

JavaScript (JS) is an interpreted computer programming language. It was originally implemented as part of web browsers so that client-side scripts could interact with the user, control the browser, communicate asynchronously, and alter the document content that was displayed. It is what which make things interactive on the web. Lately, there has been a meteoric rise in internet users around the world, all thanks to tablets and Smartphones, and so JavaScript becomes indispensible at this moment.

Whether it's the ever-popular jQuery framework or the JSON data interchange standard, companies need JavaScript-focused talent like never before. In fact, JSON is the most in-demand skill on CyberCoders.

It's worth noting that when people say "HTML5," they're often referring in part to JavaScript. That's because what makes Web apps look and feel so app-like is CSS and JavaScript, not just the plain HTML itself.

#2 HTML5 / CSS

HTML5 is a markup language for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web and is the core technology of the Internet. It is the fifth revision of the HTML standard (created in 1990 and standardized as HTML 4 as of 1997) and, as of December 2012, is a W3C Candidate Recommendation.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. It’s most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can also be applied to any kind of XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL.

This simple markup language is literally what the Web is made of, with cascading style sheets (CSS) making everything look nice and JavaScript adding interactive functionality.

In fact, as tablets, Smartphones and cloud-hosted services proliferate, the importance of the Web grows along with it. Consumers still need to access their cloud-hosted SaaS services via their Web browser. And studies show that tablet owners still love the Web.
After years of relative stagnation, HTML has made big advancements in recent years with HTML5, which is now supported by the latest versions of all major Web browsers. Meanwhile, the design options available via CSS3 and the interactivity provided by JavaScript have pushed the Web even further, blurring the line between Web-based and native apps.

Elance and Indeed both rank HTML as one of their most sought-after job skills, while other studies routinely point to it being in strong demand.

#1 IT Project Management

IT sector is not only technical but a managerial juggle too. Coding, maintaining infrastructure and designing software are all really important, but they're kind of useless without somebody to see the project through to completion.

IT sector works under immense pressure. Large projects, scarce resources, tight deadlines, quick deliverables, and high client expectations are typical for an IT company. Any project delays can be extremely costly. This is where IT project management comes under limelight. It is basically a process of planning, organizing and delineating responsibility for the completion of organizations' specific information technology (IT) goals.

That's why certified project managers can pull in six figure incomes and why 40 percent of IT executives are looking to hire project managers in 2013.

8 Most Amazing Technologies Set To Rule the World

Here are 8 Amazing Technologies that are set to rule the world. They are presented here in descending order.

#8 Genomics And Personalized Medicine

The genomics market is already exploding, and sales could increase to $2.1 billion by 2015, compared with $700 million in 2005. So far, cancer screening, pre-natal testing, and "companion diagnostics" (which are used to determine how safe another type of therapy is), are the three main areas where this tech is getting used, but in near future the technology may be used for various other reasons too.

#7 Mobile Payments

It’s already big in Japan with 55 penetration, as well as emerging markets where cell phones rule. In developed markets, it's likely to be limited to transit and retail transactions.

With about six billion phone subscriptions globally, according to Canada-based IE Market Research Corporation, mobile payments will see a $1 trillion of transaction value by 2016, opening up for new mode of payment.

#6 Energy Exploration Technology

The shale revolution has only just begun with US leading the way in shale extraction, but it only possesses 13 percent of recoverable shale gas worldwide, so there should start to be more rapid global expansion. Subsea processing equipment has the potential to be a $100 billion per annum market by the next decade. Offshore oil and gas production already accounts for 45 percent of incremental supply.

#5 Oil To Gas Switching

CNG vehicles will continue to see robust growth around globe excluding US. The forecasting firm IHS estimates that global CNG are likely to grow from 0.9 percent of global auto production to 1.1 percent by 2020.

#4 Over The Top Content

Streaming is already growing popular pushing TV ratings down to 1.2 percent since 2010. Meanwhile, Netflix subscriptions grew nearly 70 percent during the same period. Fast internet, mobile devices, and the success of the earliest firms are driving the market’s growth.

#3 The SaaS Opportunity

In 2012, the SaaS market grew 26 percent to become an $18B market according to market research firm IDC.  According to Citi's survey, SaaS has already captured 8 percent of their software wallets so far and firms expect to increase spending to 70 percent of their budget over time — a 9-fold increase.

#2 Software Defined Networking

Thanks to its affordability, SDN is expected to grow from just under $360 million in 2013 to $3.7 billion in 2016, according to IDC.

#1 Solar Photovoltaics

As solar gets cheaper, it will be possible to use it when there's less sunlight out. The IEA (International Energy Agency) under their base case are forecasting that solar will receive $1.3 trillion of investment in new capacity between 2012-35, representing 13 percent of the total global investment in power generation, ahead of gas, and only marginally behind coal.

Networking to Get a Job :: Very Important For Freshers

Finding a job in today’s economy can be tough, but there are opportunities if you know where to look. The best way to find these opportunities is not through online job boards, the classifieds, or employment agencies—it’s by talking to people around you. Your network of friends, relatives, colleagues, and acquaintances is a valuable job search resource. Networking may sound intimidating, but it can be rewarding and fun, even if you’re shy or feel like you don’t know many people. Also I am embedded a awesome video about Job by Networking at the end of this topic (Do Watch).

What is networking?
The vast majority of job openings are never advertised; they’re filled by word of mouth. That’s why networking is the best way to find a job. Unfortunately, many job seekers are hesitant to take advantage of networking because they’re afraid of being seen as pushy, annoying, or self-serving. But networking isn’t about using other people or aggressively promoting yourself—it’s about building relationships.

Networking is the best way to find a job because:

§  People do business primarily with people they know and like. Resumes and cover letters alone are often too impersonal to convince employers to hire you.
§  Job listings tend to draw piles of applicants, which puts you in intense competition with many others. Networking makes you a recommended member of a much smaller pool.
§  The job you want may not be advertised at all. Networking leads to information and job leads, often before a formal job description is created or a job announced.

Here are few Tips for you to find JOB through networking:

Tip 1: You know more people than you think

You may think that you don’t know anyone who can help you with your job search. But you know more people than you think, and there’s a very good chance that at least a few of these people know someone who can give you career advice or point you to a job opening. You’ll never know if you don’t ask!

Make a list of the people in your network

Your network is bigger than you think it is. It includes all of your family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, colleagues, and even casual acquaintances. Start writing down names, and you’ll be surprised at how quickly the list grows.

Tip 2: Reach out to your network

All the connections in the world won’t help you find a job if no one knows about your situation. Once you’ve drawn up your list, start making contact with the people in your network. Let them know that you’re looking for a job. Be specific about what kind of work you’re looking for and ask them if they have any information or know anyone in a relevant field. Don’t assume that certain people won’t be able to help. You may be surprised by who they know.

Figure out what you want before you start networking

Tip 3: Improve your communication skills
Effective communication is a cornerstone of job networking. As simple as communication may seem, much of what we try to communicate—and others try to communicate to us—gets misunderstood.
Effective communication combines a set of learned skills: attentive listening, recognizing and using nonverbal cues, managing stress in the moment, and understanding your own emotions and those of the person you're communicating with.

Be an Attentive listener

Tip 4: Focus on building relationships

Networking is a give-and-take process that involves making connections, sharing information, and asking questions. It’s a way of relating to others, not a technique for getting a job or a favor. You don’t have to hand out your business cards on street corners, cold call everyone on your contact list, or work a room of strangers. All you have to do is reach out.

Tip 5: Take the time to maintain your network
Maintaining your job network is just as important as building it. Accumulating new contacts can be beneficial, but only if you have the time to nurture the relationships. Avoid the irrational impulse to meet as many new people as possible. The key is quality, rather than quantity. Focus on cultivating and maintaining your existing network. You’re sure to discover an incredible array of information, knowledge, expertise, and opportunities.

Schedule time with your key contacts

Tip 6: Leverage Poser of Social Network to find a Great Job

Nowadays social media is ubiquitous: you have now LinkedinFacebookGoogle +TwitterPinterestYouTubeInstagram (I’m sure there are more but these are the well known ones).

But how can you use these free social tools and its power to help you get to the next level of your career or business?
Remember that social media tools are just that-  tools. All they do is to amplify what you already are, be it a business or individual. They act like channels for you to publicize and market your knowledge, skills and brand to the wider public.

My take is that social media, if leveraged right, can have the potential to bring you more clients, jobs, leads and customers.

If you are looking to broaden your networks and job opportunities, a great way to start is to sign up for a Linkedin account. I have a Linkedin account and I mainly use it to connect with my professional contacts. I’ve even gotten emails from recruiters for jobs that match my skills and experiences. I turn them down because at that time, I wasn’t interested in having a new job but as you can see, there is a possible chance that you might be contacted by recruiters on Linkedin if your skills and experiences match their expectations. The key here is to fill your profile with as much details as possible about your skills, knowledge, experience and education.  Or join the groups and discussions on Linkedin and participate in Q&A Sessions with your peers.

Facebook and Twitter are other avenues for you to showcase your insights, knowledge and abilities. You can use them to follow the top leaders in your industry or relevant companies to better understand their ideas, their thinking and insights. Besides following these influential leaders, you might want to tweet or re-tweet interesting tidbits of the people you follow, or your own insights. It is a great way to get to know people.
